Fusion Dropstitch Stand-Up Paddleboard

Our Fusion Dropstitch stand up paddle boards are our rigidity-and-performance range: two dropstitch layers heat-fused into a stiffer, more durable board that gets as close as an inflatable can to the feel of a hardboard. This is the construction we recommend whenever you want efficiency and glide - on longer boards, for touring, for covering distance or for intensive club use. A specialist inflatable manufacturer since 1988, we design these boards in France and assemble them in our own factories.

Fusion Dropstitch technology: our performance and rigidity range

At Aquadesign we build our inflatable stand up paddle boards around two complementary dropstitch technologies. Fusion Dropstitch (dual-layer fusion) is the one we designed for stiffness and glide. The dropstitch principle is the same everywhere: thousands of threads link the top and bottom of the board so it holds a constant thickness once inflated. What changes here is the addition of a second layer of material and, above all, the way it is bonded.

On a longer board, the structure eventually lacks support in the middle: the longer the board, the more it tends to flex under the paddler's weight. That is why a dual layer becomes essential as soon as the board gets longer and you chase glide and performance. It stiffens the structure, handles loads better and extends the board's lifespan.

Heat fusion vs glued dual layer: the real advantage

A dual layer can be built two ways. The classic method glues a second PVC layer onto the first: you gain rigidity, but the glue and added material make the board noticeably heavier. Our approach is different: we heat-fuse the two layers, with no extra glue coat. The result keeps all the rigidity and durability of a dual layer while optimising weight. The board stays easy to carry and inflate, the finish is cleaner, and the on-water feel gets closer to a hardboard: stiff, responsive and efficient on every stroke.

Fusion or Light Dropstitch: which one to choose?

Our two families are not rivals - they answer different needs. Thickness or technology is not a sign of higher quality: it is a choice matched to your body weight, level and program.

  • Fusion Dropstitch: priority to rigidity, glide and durability. Ideal for regular and demanding use, longer boards, touring and distance, heavier paddlers, and intensive club or rental use.
  • Light Dropstitch: priority to lightness and accessibility. Perfect for beginners, lighter paddlers and anyone who wants a board that is easy to carry and store.

If you are still unsure about the format, our full stand up paddle range and our advisers will help you decide.

Our Fusion Dropstitch line-up

Fusion construction equips both our most versatile and our most performance-oriented boards. You will find it on references such as the Eyro 10'8 Pros Fusion, a benchmark in our catalogue, as well as the Iota 10' and the SIGMA 10'8, both popular with clubs and beginners who want something robust.

To chase distance and glide, Fusion truly shines on the longer formats: the Yla 11'6, the Arko 11', the Tempo 11'6 and the Fyra 12'6, all the way to the most streamlined boards such as the AIR SWIFT 12'6 and the FIRST 14', built for touring and racing. The family-friendly Kendo 10'6 rounds out the selection for stable, reassuring use. To explore long-distance paddling, see our touring stand up paddles, and for more leisure-focused use our versatile stand up paddles.

Clubs, rental centres, watersport bases and local authorities

Fusion Dropstitch is our best construction for professional, intensive use: it withstands rotations, repeated handling and the varied body weights of a rental clientele. As a manufacturer, we offer trade pricing to clubs, rental operators, watersport bases and local authorities, backed by a genuine repair workshop and after-sales service in France (Oraison) with spare parts available. For fleets that carry several people, take a look at our giant stand up paddles.

Why Aquadesign

A French brand and family business, we have been one of Europe's inflatable pioneers since 1988. We design and develop our products in France and manufacture them in our own factories, to our own specifications. Our dropstitch fabrics are among the best on the market and our boards ship as a complete pack, ready to paddle. Whether you buy directly or through our partner dealers, you get the same brand know-how and the same support.

Frequently asked questions about Fusion Dropstitch paddle boards

What is the difference between a glued dual layer and Fusion dual layer?

A glued dual layer adds a second PVC layer with adhesive: rigid but heavy. Fusion Dropstitch heat-bonds the two layers with no extra glue coat, delivering the same rigidity and durability while optimising weight and giving a cleaner finish.

What pressure should I inflate a Fusion Dropstitch board to?

We recommend 13 to 15 PSI. Rigidity is already excellent from 12 PSI, 13 PSI gives good flex for optimal paddling, and 15 PSI suits ultra-stiff use on flat water. Our fabrics are tested very high, but never exceed 18 PSI: over-inflation stresses the seams, and heat (full sun, sand, a car roof rack) makes the pressure rise quickly.

Is a Fusion board stiffer than a single dropstitch layer?

Yes. The fused second layer stiffens the structure, which is especially noticeable on longer boards and as soon as you add weight or speed. The feel gets closer to a hardboard, with excellent stroke efficiency.

Who is Fusion Dropstitch recommended for?

For regular and demanding use, touring and distance, heavier paddlers, anyone chasing rigidity, and intensive club or rental use. For beginner or lighter, ease-focused use, look instead at Light Dropstitch.

Is a Fusion board more durable?

The dual layer clearly improves resistance and longevity, especially under intensive use. That is why we favour this construction for clubs and rental operators, with spare parts and after-sales service available.

Should I choose Fusion based on board thickness?

Thickness (12.5 or 15 cm) is a choice of body weight and program, not quality: a thicker board offers more volume and buoyancy, a thinner one gains flex and lowers the centre of inertia. Fusion brings its rigidity at any thickness, with a real benefit on longer formats.
