How to choose an inflatable fishing kayak

A fishing kayak is not paddled like a touring boat: you sit still for long stretches, lean out to set the hook and work a rod one-handed. The hull has to forgive weight shifts and act as a stable working platform. As an inflatable-craft specialist since 1988, Aquadesign built the Koloa X'Perience range for exactly that job.

Stability first: width and a rigid floor

In stationary fishing, width drives stability far more than length. A narrow hull tips the moment you reach for a fish, while a generous beam and a taut floor keep the kayak flat. Both of our models are built around this: 27 cm diameter tubes, a hull width of 96 to 100 cm, and above all a 12.5 cm Dropstitch floor inflated to 10 PSI that delivers a firm, near-hardshell ride.

  • Hull width: 96 cm (Koloa X'Perience 305) to 100 cm (Koloa X'Perience 360) for reassuring primary stability.
  • High-pressure floor: 12.5 cm Dropstitch deck at 10 PSI, side tubes at 3.5 PSI, in three independent chambers.
  • Moulded bow: holds a line and cuts cleanly through the water, even loaded.
  • Self-bailing system: plugged drain holes clear shipped water for a dry cockpit.

Sitting or standing?

Seated on the adjustable Dropstitch seat, you can fish comfortably for hours. Standing — useful for casting or sight-fishing — calls for width: from around 95 cm with a rigid floor, you can rise without constant balancing. The Koloa X'Perience 305 (96 cm) already allows occasional stand-ups, while the Koloa X'Perience 360 (100 cm) gives the most confident standing platform.

The fittings that change everything

A real fishing kayak is judged by its mounting points. The Koloa X'Perience boats carry universal front and rear fittings (rails for rod holders and camera mounts), a multi-rod holder, Velcro® paddle keepers to free your hands, XXL storage fore and aft with double bungee and a mesh net, plus versatile straps that run behind the seat.

Our range: Koloa X'Perience 305 and 360

Two versions of the same fully-rigged boat, certified for sea, lake and river (classes I to III):

  • The Koloa X'Perience 305 (1 seat, 305 cm, 15.3 kg, 180 kg capacity): light, nimble, ideal for solo fishing and easy transport.
  • The Koloa X'Perience 360 (2 seats, 360 cm, 100 cm wide, 215 kg capacity): the most stable platform, for fishing as a pair or carrying more gear on expedition.

Both boats belong to our inflatable canoe-kayak range and share the expedition DNA of our touring models. To kit out the angler from head to toe, explore our full fishing range too.

Reach the spots, approach in silence, travel light

The great strength of an inflatable fishing kayak is access. Folded into its compact bag (15.3 kg for the 305), it slides into a car boot and carries to swims you can't reach from the bank: backwaters, reed beds, coves. On the water it moves with no motor and no noise, for a discreet approach to wary fish. Pick a suitable canoe-kayak paddle and keep your gear safe in the dry bags and canisters of our waterproof luggage.

Safety before the bite

On the water, the first reflex is the buoyancy aid. A CE-certified aid with a cut that leaves the shoulders free to cast is easy to find in our canoe-kayak buoyancy aids. Add a whistle and, on whitewater, keep a safety knife within reach.

Why choose Aquadesign

A French brand and manufacturer since 1988, we build our boats from reinforced 1100 DTEX PVC that shrugs off bankside abrasion and UV — the opposite of "double-skin" kayaks (thin bladder plus fabric cover) that puncture easily and are hard to repair. Our hulls are CE-certified, supplied with a repair kit and backed by a service workshop in France (Oraison) that keeps spare parts. Clubs, outdoor centres, fishing guides and public bodies also benefit from professional pricing for a durable fleet.

Frequently asked questions about inflatable fishing kayaks

Can you really stand up to fish in an inflatable kayak?

Yes, on a wide model with a rigid floor. From about 95 cm of width and with a taut Dropstitch deck, you can rise to cast or spot fish. The Koloa X'Perience 360 (100 cm) is the most comfortable for this; the 305 (96 cm) allows occasional stand-ups.

One seat or two for fishing?

The Koloa X'Perience 305 (1 seat, 15.3 kg) is enough for solo fishing and light transport. The Koloa X'Perience 360 (2 seats, 215 kg capacity) suits fishing as a pair, or solo when you want maximum stability and room for gear.

What pressure for the kayak floor?

The Dropstitch floor inflates to 10 PSI for a rigid, stable hull, while the side tubes reach 3.5 PSI. Always use the supplied high-pressure pump and its gauge, and respect the values printed on the boat.

How do you fit rods and a camera?

The Koloa X'Perience boats have universal front and rear fittings, a multi-rod holder and versatile straps. Rod holders, camera mounts and accessories attach easily, while Velcro® keepers secure the paddle during the action.

Where do you keep gear dry on board?

The XXL front and rear storage, with double bungee and a mesh net, takes a cool box, cases and bags. To keep electronics and papers dry, add dry bags and wide-mouth canisters from our luggage range.

Is an inflatable kayak tough enough to fish among obstacles?

Yes, as long as it is built from high-tenacity coated fabric. Our reinforced 1100 DTEX PVC takes the abrasion of banks, pontoons and rocks, unlike "double-skin" toys. If needed, our manufacturer service handles repairs and spare parts.
