Choosing the right on-the-water fishing gear
Fishing from the water changes everything: you reach spots you can't cast from the bank, stay quiet and stay mobile. But it takes a stable craft, faultless safety gear and storage that keeps your kit dry. At Aquadesign, a watersports manufacturer since 1988, every piece is built around real conditions on the water.
The fishing kayak: stability first
For fishing, width matters more than speed. A wide tube and a rigid floor deliver the primary stability you need to cast, set the hook and unhook without tipping. Our Koloa X'Perience kayaks are built around that reassuring trim, in a 1-person version (Koloa X'Perience 305) or tandem (Koloa X'Perience 360) for fishing with a partner or longer expeditions with an overnight stop.
- Stability: wide hull and high-pressure inflatable floor to sit steady on the water.
- Durability: manufacturer-grade materials that resist abrasion from banks and jetties.
- Transport: folded, an inflatable kayak fits in a car boot and carries to remote spots.
- Load capacity: room for the cooler, rods and dry containers.
Safety: the buoyancy aid comes first
On the water, the 50N buoyancy aid is the watersports standard (ISO 12402-5, CE marking). Our Kaaki 50N buoyancy aid is cut for fishing: open shoulders for casting, pockets to keep accessories within reach and reliable buoyancy if you go in. Add the Everguard safety knife to deal with lines and ropes.
Our fishing range
Three complementary families to equip the angler from hull to small gear:
- Our inflatable fishing kayaks, at the heart of the inflatable canoe-kayak range and close to our touring models for expeditions.
- Buoyancy aids: the Kaaki 50N and the full 50N buoyancy aid range, backed by canoe-kayak safety.
- Waterproof storage: Koa dry bags (3 to 80 L), wide-mouth Curtec containers (3.6 to 55 L) and Dropp Inn / Padd Inn boxes, gathered in our waterproof luggage.
To power it all, don't forget our canoe and kayak paddles.
Store and protect: dry bags and containers
Pick the volume by trip: 3 to 10 L for phone and wallet, 15 to 30 L for a full day, 50 to 80 L for an overnight. The roll-top Koa dry bags float and stay easy to spot; the wide-mouth Curtec containers protect electronics and food, with stackable models (30 and 40 L) to optimise space on board.
Clubs, guides and rental fleets
Watersports bases, fishing guides and public bodies find rugged, easy-to-store and easy-to-maintain craft at Aquadesign, with manufacturer after-sales support and professional pricing suited to fleets. Get in touch for a fleet package built for intensive use.
Why Aquadesign
A French brand, we have designed, manufactured (in our own factories) and tested our gear in whitewater and inflatables since 1988. The result: CE-compliant products, durable materials rather than low-cost throwaways, and advice from a specialist who is on the water too. That's the difference between buying an accessory and equipping yourself to last.
Frequently asked questions about kayak fishing
Can you fish standing up in an inflatable kayak?
Yes, on a model wide enough (around 95 cm or more) with a rigid high-pressure floor. Width and a stable base matter more than length for staying steady when you cast or unhook a fish.
Is a buoyancy aid mandatory for kayak fishing?
A CE-approved 50N buoyancy aid (ISO 12402-5) is required or strongly recommended depending on the zone. At sea and on rivers, wearing one is the first safety reflex: our Kaaki 50N is designed for fishing.
What dry bag volume should I choose?
Plan 3 to 10 L for valuables on a short trip, 15 to 30 L for a day out and 50 to 80 L for an overnight. Never fill a roll-top bag beyond 70% so it keeps floating.
What is the difference between a dry bag and a Curtec container?
The soft roll-top Koa bag slips in anywhere and floats; the rigid wide-mouth Curtec container gives better shock protection for electronics and food, with stackable versions to save space.
Is an inflatable kayak tough enough for fishing?
Yes, when it is built from rugged materials like ours. Our hulls resist abrasion from banks and jetties, and our manufacturer after-sales support ensures longevity, including for club and rental use.
One or two seats for fishing?
The Koloa X'Perience 305 (1-person) is enough for solo fishing and light transport; the Koloa X'Perience 360 (2-person) suits fishing with a partner or expeditions with more gear on board.
